Dearest Elementary Families,
It’s hard to believe the first few days of school are complete! Despite the stormy weather, we kept sunny dispositions inside and worked together to get back into the swing of school.
This week all elementary students worked on team building and get-to-know-you activities. Building strong community is the first step in cultivating a peaceful, well-run classroom. Together we also practiced basic procedures for navigating the building and expectations for behavior. Starting Monday we begin our study of physical science and the beginnings of our Universe!
Next week we will also begin to assess students’ math and general reading skills as well as collect writing samples. This will allow us to place them at the appropriate spots in the Montessori curriculum sequences. There will likely be some review of previously mastered skills before moving on to learning new material.
Around the end of September your child’s classroom teacher will be sending home an elementary adjustment check form. This will give you an idea of how your child is settling in and will provide some guidance on ways to work together with the classroom teacher to support your child’s learning. I have included a blank copy of the 6-week assessment form below so you know what is coming.
Please also remember to visit the Parent Drive to view photos and videos from the week as well as other important documents. No items in the lost and found as of yet (I call that a win)! [redacted]
As always, thank you so much for your tremendous support of our school! It is such a lovely place to call “home away from home” and we appreciate everything you do to make our community strong and peaceful. Have a great weekend!
